Tree Maintenance Programme 2016.
In line with the Council's Tree Management Policy 2015-2020 "Living With Trees", the focus of the 2016 Tree Maintenance Programme will be on entire roads or whole estates. This represents a move away from reactive pruning of individual trees on a one off basis to a planned maintenance programme. The objective of this approach will increase the efficiency and productivity of the tree maintenance crews and advance a proactive programme of cyclical pruning targeting priority locations where intervention is most needed and will yield greatest community benefit.
In 2015, a Tree management system was used to record over 6,000 tree inspections. Inspections involve an assessment of the tree’s health and condition and identifies the maintenance required, if any, and this allows the Council to prioritise work in the most effective manner.
In addition to the planned whole estate and road programme, works considered necessary arising from inspection of the trees requested will be noted and prioritised accordingly as part of this or future Tree Maintenance Programmes. For example approximately 100 dead trees were identified in inspections to date and this work will be scheduled as necessary.
