MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE

MOTION NO. 18

MOTION: Councillor W. Lavelle

"That this Area Committee, further to the reply to question 41118 at the October 2014 meeting of this Committee, requests the Chief Executive to commit to a timeframe for the installation of new 'welcome' signage at key gateways to Lucan Village, to outline the locations where this new signage is to be installed; and to provide a graphic sample of the planned new signage; and to further outline a timeframe for provision and promotion of a Lucan Village Heritage Trail; noting that these are the primary objectives of the rejuvenated Lucan Village Network."

REPORT:

"Strategic design for way-finding systems for pedestrian/cycle movement in South Dublin County Council’s towns 9 villages has been completed. A pilot project was implemented in Tallaght which was well received however issues occurred during the recent winter storms which has slightly delayed progress to the next Villages. It is still intended that two more Villages will be completed in 2016 and that Lucan is one of those.

Parallel to this programme, it is intended to develop a ‘welcome-sign’ on the approaches to each of the 9 villages involved in the current Villages Initiative as an additional measure. It is proposed to pilot this project in Lucan in the first instance. It was intended that the signs be tendered in the in late 2105 / early 2016 however it appears that each Village has a different view on what the signage should look like. County Promotion / Architects Department are working to resolve this.

The exact number and location of the welcome signs to be installed will also depend on costs, visibility, traffic safety and pedestrian/mobility safety."
