MOTION: Councillor L. O'Toole

"That this Council asks the Chief Executive for an update on the installation of lights in the car park area at Lucan Harriers / Weston Hockey club house as agreed at the September meeting (46130 Motion 5)."

REPORT:

Due to the presence of overhead power lines the installation of a lighting scheme in the car park is not straightforward. The options available are:

• Installing a lighting scheme with lighting columns which are set a safe distance from the powerlines.
• Installing a lighting scheme with lighting columns which are set a safe distance below the powerlines.
• Undergrounding the powerlines and installing lighting columns as required.
• Installing a lighting scheme on the clubhouse side of the car park.

Installing the lighting scheme on the Newcastle Road is the preferred option given the complexities involved with ducting in and around the clubhouse, the availability of a power source and ongoing maintenance. A meeting is currently being arranged with the ESB to assess the feasibility of all options with a view to progressing the project.
