MOTION: Councillor W. Lavelle
"That this Area Committee requests the Chief Executive to provide an update on both the planned provision of the long-awaited Adamstown Sports & Community Hall and my previous request for consultation with Adamstown residents and local sports clubs/community groups on the needs of the Adamstown community in terms of community facility provision."
REPORT:
The Department have advise that a proposal from Castlethorn Construction regarding the Construction of the Sports Hall has been received in December.
The Department have further advised that they will revert to SDCC in due course regarding possible contribution from SDCC towards a community facility element and whether it is considered appropriate that the community additional space would be included as part of any development.
Castlthorne Construction are expected to appoint a design team to the Project shortly and the Council will be discussing with them regarding provision of Community facilities within the project.
As members are aware SDCC have indicated to both Castlethorn and the Department of Education that the Council is interested in pursuing a project where a combined sports hall and community facilities can be provided, and to this end SDCC has provided a sum of €750,000 in the recently prepared 3 year capital programme 2016-2018.
We understand that once the Design team are appointed Casthlethorne Construction meet with the Council to progress the project. The aim of such a meeting will be to progress how the facility can be designed, delivered and operated and formulate an agreement between SDCC/Casthlethorne / ETB to this end.
It is also proposed to receive a Deputation from The Adamstown input group in the Council Chamber, County Hall, Tallaght, Dublin 24 on Wednesday 24th February, 2016 at 3pm to discuss the follwing agenda items:
- Setting of a consultation process with the residents of Adamstown and Adamstown Community College regarding the nature of any Community/Sports Hall and the management of that facility.
- Timeframe for delivery of Community/Sports Hall.
