QUESTION: Councillor A. White
"To ask the Manger to deal with the proliferation of signage at the entrance to Eden Grove at Grange Road, Rathfarnham as these signs and billboards are large and unsightly and detract from the visual appearance of the area and in particular of the Eden estate?"
REPLY:
Warning Letters dated 7th December 2005 were served on the owner/occupiers in relation to the attachment of 2 no. PVC type white banner advertisements to the railings along the back of the footpath to Eden Avenue as it nears its junction with the Grange Road, in contravention of Section 3(2)(a) of the Planning and Development Act, 2000.
The Planning Inspector has resported that the large advertising structure located in the grassed area at the junction between Grange Road and Eden Avenue which bears advertisements for several companies, has existed on the lands inexcess of 7 years. Accordingly, any enforcement action in relation to this particular structure in it's current location is stature barred.
It should be noted in this regard that the advertising structure as described above is currently located on lands reserved for the widening/ improvement of the Grange Road. With the commencement of the road improvement works, the structure will have to be removed. The owner of the advertising structure is aware that when the structure is removed, planning permission will be required for it's erection elsewhere on the lands.
