MOTION NO. 77

MOTION: Councillor G. O'Connell

Motion: Cllr G. O’Connell, Cllr P. Gogarty, Cllr L. O’Toole

That it be an objective of the 2016-2022 CDP to work with the Department of Children, the DDLETB, Foroige and other stakeholders to provide permanent Youth Centres in areas of the County identified as having a high teenage population and lacking suitable premises for youth Clubs.

REPORT:

Policy C1 of the Draft Plan 2016-2022 includes objectives to support the provision of new and improved community facilities in established areas of the County, the provision of community facilities in developing areas in tandem with residential development, and the clustering of facilities such as community centres, sports and leisure facilities and open spaces to create multi-purpose community hubs. In addition, Policy C7 includes objectives relating to the promotion and support of developing minority sports with indoor and outdoor spaces for same, and the provision of permanent spaces for well-established sports clubs in the County. The identification of specific sites or allocation of premises for such uses or named clubs, however, is beyond the scope of the strategic land use function of the County Development Plan.

Recommendation

It is recommended that this motion is not adopted.
