MOTION NO. 14
MOTION: Councillor P. Gogarty
"That the Chief Executive reports on communications received formally or informally, directly or indirectly, from the Minister for Education or her offiicals in relation to the progressing of a sports hall required as part of the SDZ process in Adamstown; outlines in detail all communications verbal or written made to the Minister and her Department and staff in relation to the proposal to join the Sports Hall project with the other required SDZ facility of a Community hall, so as to create a larger, multi-purpose community facility; to outline an indicative timeframe for the construction of a sports/community hall based on all current information available; and furthermore undertakes to facilitate a forum for input by the Adamstown Community (including Adamstown Input Group and other organisations) and Adamstown Community College into the design of such a necessary facility, essential for community cohesion and further phased housing construction."
REPORT:
The Council have received correspondence from the office of the Minister for Education and Skills on the matter of the provision of a Sports/Community Facility for Adamstown. The response states that officials from the Department are engaged in discussions with the developer with a view to ensuring that the sports facilities for the school are delivered and that the Department are in receipt of a proposal from the developer which would possibly facilitate the delivery of the facilities. The proposal has been assessed and officials have reverted to the developer regarding this. Discussions are ongoing in this regard. The correspondence states that in the context of these discussions it would not be appropriate to disclose specific information regarding the proposal.
The correspondence goes on to state that the Department is aware that South Dublin County Council is interested in pursuing a project where a combined sports hall and community facilities can be provided, and that South Dublin County Council has provided a sum of €750,000 in their recently prepared 3 year capital programme 2016-2018.
The Council expects contact from the Department in due course regarding a possible contribution towards a community facility element and the potential inclusion of community additional space as part of any development.
The correpondence concludes that in the first instance the current discussions with the developer must be brought to a satisfactory conclusion and that officials are currently working to achieve this.
