REPORT:
Reports and analyis over recent years, including the economic surveys done in conjunction with the Chamber and analysis of the rate accounts, has demonstrated issues relating to vacancy and obscelence in Cookstown. This data was utilised in looking at ways to deal with industrial regeneration in the County.
A step by step approach was taken in order to develop a picture of the status of each Industrial Area. A number of issues have been identified. Cookstown Industrial Estate, Tallaght was assessed to identify means to improving and regenerating the area.
Two projects were identified and are being pursued, namely
Cookstown.
In addition to the larger infrastructural project above an Industrial Regeneration Initiative Fund is also available. South Dublin Chamber has assisted with establishing contact with occupiers who are interested in revitalising their own areas and SDCC has met with a number of businesses. Cookstown Enterprise Park is in discussion with SDCC with a view to utilising this fund. A number of meetings have been held with representatives from the Cookstown Enterprise Park. A scheme has been designed and cost estimates have been obtained by the proposers of the projects. SDCC is currently awaiting finalisation of design / cost estimates prior to consideration and approval. This scheme is open to other applicants.
The above schemes incorporate funding for start up business and there is a related scheme on rates incorporated in the 2016 budget.
Regular updates on progress on these Schemes will be given to the Economic SPC & Council.
Gateway staff also carry out routine work in the estate public areas which has improved the appearance of the estate significantly
