MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE

MOTION NO. 21

MOTION: Councillor G. O'Connell, Councillor P. Gogarty, Councillor L. O'Toole

"This Committee requests a review of Palmerstown Village to include the possibility of

1. relocating the public parking area to the Commercial side of the street,

2. an examination of the footpath between the end of the shops and the R148 to verify if it meets regulation width especially given that it’s the main route for   pedestrians using Stewarts Special Facilities,

3. that land owners be approached to explore the provision of additional space for parking and if necessary adjustments to the width of the footpath and that a report be brought to the March meeting of this committee."

REPORT:

1. The Village Renewal scheme for this area has just been completed. Relocation of parking is possible, however, at substantial cost. Works of this nature would include service pole and box adjustments, Bus stop removal, footpath narrowing etc.

2. This footpath is 1.4m wide at its narrowest. This complies with minimum footpath width requirements but given the level of footfall, it would benefit from being wider, this may be achievable through land acquisition from the B&B or narrowing the road in front of the B&B.

3. As stated above, the owner of the B&B could be approached but we may also achieve our objective by narrowing the public road. Both measures will be considered by Road Traffic section.

Given that the Architects Department led the Village Renewal Scheme these matters have been referred to this department for further examination.
