MOTION NO. 9

MOTION: Councillor D. Richardson

"To ask the Chief Executive to report on School Warden personnel. Are there any more been taken on by the Council.  There are schools that need someone outside and what is the policy when a person is sick, is there cover provided?"

REPORT:

Every effort is made to provide cover at all School Warden Crossing points across the county having regard to crossing priorities and available resources. Unfortunately when relief cover is not available, as happens from time to time, it becomes necessary to temporarily relocate existing School Wardens to cover at priority crossings. In instances where cover cannot be provided on a given day, schools are notified immediately. These situations are monitored closely and immediately cover becomes available, normal service resumes. The Council is currently in the process of recruiting relief school wardens which, when they come on stream, should help to alleviate the current pressure on the system.

Provision has been made in the budget for an additional 5 No. School Wardens in 2016. This increase in numbers makes it possible to examine assignment of wardens to new locations across the county. All new requests will be examined in conjunction with an overall review of existing School Warden assignments.
