MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE

MOTION NO. 7

MOTION: Councillor C. O'Connor

That this Committee calls on the Chief Executive to provide details of the business plan for Tallaght Stadium as alluded to at previous Council Meetings; will he include details of what has been developed so far at the Tallaght Stadium and will he also confirm details of the long term strategy for the further development and completion of Tallaght Stadium and in responding will he appreciate the importance of this issue to the community.

REPORT:

The development of Tallaght Stadium continues as quickly as resources allow and in accordance with the overall aim to provide a multi purpose community facility which has a focus on being the primary venue for sporting activities in the County. In addition to being the home of Shamrock Rovers, the Stadium has also hosted a range of sporting and community events. The local Stadium management continue to explore further opportunities and details of future events will be publicised as soon as it is possible to do so.

To support the overall objectives for the Stadium provision has been found in both the 2104 and 2015 Budget arithmetic to set aside significant sums to advance the next phases of development at the Stadium with the provision of a new stand along the southern boundary of the facility. In this regard the provision of this additional stand is included in the current work programme for the County Architect's Department. It is proposed to commence work on the planning and procurement implications and to assemble the details required to estimate the cost of delivering this planned project.

While the Council has set aside €750,000.00 in its Capital Account, this sum is only a contribution towards the overall estimated cost which will be substantially in excess of this sum. Financial support from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport will be required before final plans can be progressed.
