QUESTION: Councillor E. Higgins

"To ask the Chief Executive to confirm that all undeveloped land at Rathcoole Park was looked at in the context of identifying the best possible place for a potential car park and the recommendation given at the last meeting was deemed the most appropriate location for it?"

REPLY:

A number of potential sites for the proposed new car park in Rathcoole Park were investigated. Two options would have involved directing traffic through residential areas - which would have been contentious - and one would have involved utilising an access route to the Parks Depot and was rejected on the grounds of safety. The most feasible site was the one identified off the Fitzmaurice Road. All of the possible sites were presented to the Elected Members and the site off Fitzmaurice Road was the one recommended to and accepted by the Elected Members at the September ACM.
