MOTION NO. 2

MOTION: Councillor M. Duff

That this Committee calls on the Chief Executive to provide a report regarding the Window and Door Replacement Programme, outlining the cost of such replacement in the average three bedroom social house, how long the current contract has to run and if he would consider a grant scheme for tenants to allow them access their own installations?

REPORT:

The budget for the 2015 windows/doors programme is €1,070,000 and the anticipated number of completions Countywide will be in the region of 168.

It costs approx. €7,000.00 to replace the windows and doors in an average 3 bedroomed house.

The price will vary depending on the number and size of the windows and doors to be replaced in any given property.

148 are either completed or in progress, 93 of these are in the Tallaght area.

The current contract ran from June 2013 until June 2015 and has been further extended until December 2015.

The current windows and doors replacement programme ensures that the funds available are spent in a targeted and transparent manner on replacing those windows and doors in the worst condition, following examination and grading by the Architects Department staff.

There are no plans to introduce a grant scheme as this would militate against the  principles of the scheme.
