MOTION NO. 10

MOTION: Councillor M. Devine

That this Committee asks that the Chief Executive ensures that the entrance to the Basketball Arena is secured at night- quads, motorbikes and cars are using the grounds as a race track and unacceptable asb. It requires a barrier where 2 ineffective bollards are situated and for the existing steel barrier be secured nightly.

REPORT:

The new road to the National Basketball Arena is regarded as a very successful project that has enhanced the access to this facility as well as upgrading this section of Tymon Park. There are some snags issues that have to be dealt with, including the bollards mentioned in the Motion. The two bollards that were installed will be examined with the Roads Section to determine if they should be replaced with a Kissing Gate to deter motorised vehicles from accessing the park.

The existing gate is  closed in the evening by the personnel working for the National Basketball Arena (NBA). The NBA will be consulted on any changes proposed to the bollards.
