QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor
"To ask the Chief Executive to present an update on plans for the further development of Library services in Castletymon Library Tallaght."
REPLY:
The Library service in Castletymon Library is continuing as normal this autumn with the regular opening hours and services. It was envisaged that the library in Castletymon would be closed for a short time while remedial work was being done on the roof. An alternate hub was located in Glenview. It seems likely that this work may not go ahead before Christmas so our regular library service will continue in the present building.
Regular services include:
- Books, including large print & audio books
- DVDS and CDs
- Newspapers and Magazines
- Multimedia including Language courses
- Public access PCs with internet access with Free WiFi
- Photocopying, Printing and Scanning facilities
- Forms – a wide range including Driving Licence, Passport,
- Voters' Registration forms, Driver Theory Test, etc.
- Classes - English Language,Spanish Conversation.
The knitting and crochet circle will also meet as before.
For the children:
- Books and DVDs for children of all ages
- Graded readers in the learning support section to help develop confidence in young readers
- A separate Young Adult area with books and DVDs
- Junior Book Club
- Junior Chess Club
- Regular weekly Arts and Crafts sessions
- Class visits: We welcome visits from primary and post-primary classes.
- Block Loan facilities are available for teachers for books to use in the classroom.
- A selection of games is available for children to play with in the library
