COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE
Monday, October 19, 2015
QUESTION NO. 12
QUESTION: Councillor M. Duff
"To ask the Chief Executive to make a report to this Committee regarding what efforts, if any, have been taken to remove posters which have emerged in all areas of Tallaght containing statements or contain threatening messages on them and if any efforts have been made to identify the organisation behind these posters and will any fines ensue?"
REPLY:
The Council enforces the provisions of Section 19 of the Litter Pollution Act 1997, as amended, in regard to illegal signage and enforcement action is taken where possible.
The Council's Litter Wardens have investigated the signs referred to and found them to contain only messages/statements, with no information identifying those responsible for erection. As a result, it has not been possible to take enforcement action.
The Council's Public Realm operational staff remove illegal posters on an ongoing basis. Further work will be carried out in the coming weeks to remove the remaining posters in the Tallaght area which are referred to here.
