Mayor's Business

I want to highlight the devastating effect years of funding cuts, coupled with the continuing housing crisis, is having on local women’s refuges.

Saoirse Women’s Refuges’ annual report showed that they had to turn away 494 families in 2014, or 81% of the total number of women who came to them seeking refuge. Now we have the news that Cuan Alainn will be closed before Christmas.  I ask that we write to the Minister for Social Protection urgently seeking a reinstatement of the funding.
