COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE

QUESTION NO. 14
QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor
"To ask the Chief Executive to update members in respect of the Pairc Na Greine apartment block on Cookstown Road, Tallaght confirming the schedule now being followed in respect of the allocation and occupation of the apartments and will he also respond to the view of the local community that local families on our allocations list should be accommodated."
REPLY:
There are 45 associated housing body units, under Oaklee Housing Trust, in the Pairc na Greine development - comprised of 44 x 2 bed units & 1 x 1 bed unit.
32 dwellings have been advertised on a phased basis on the Council’s Choice Based Letting system since 7th August to date, nominations for same have been forward to Oaklee Housing Trust. Oaklee have carried out interviews and pre-tenancies, it is expected to commence tenanting these dwellings in the next few weeks.
17 dwellings were identified for Medical Priority cases, resulting in below:- –
9 | Offer and accepted |
3 | Refused as dwelling was not suitable |
5 | Refused preferring alternative area/accommodation type |
Of the 8 no longer utilised for medical cases:- 4 were CBLd (included in above) and 4 are to be offered to applicants on the Council’s Transfer List on overcrowding/downsizing grounds.
The Council allocates vacant dwellings, including AHB dwellings, in accordance with the Allocation Scheme, which is based on a ‘Time on List’ i.e. by date of application. Should a local applicant make expression of interest through CBL their success in receiving an offer of housing will be determined by time on list. Should the Council agree to offer housing to locals only this could have a detrimental effect on all lettings made going forward, i.e. applicants from the Cookstown Road area could not be considered for vacancies arising in other areas. Furthermore, it is not possible to identify all locals on the housing waiting list as many may not be actual resident in their area of origin to which they wish to return and therefore could not be identified by address.
