MOTION NO. 2
MOTION: Councillor M. Devine
That this Committee establish an action plan to the main entry routes into Tallaght which are seriously in need of upgrading & public realm improvements - The N81, the Greenhills Road, Fettercairn/Cheeverstown Road and the Belgard Roads.
REPORT:
An upgrade scheme for the N81 is included in the Public Realm Improvement Works Programme for the current year. A tender process commenced in August to procure landscaping design services for the scheme. Once design services have been procured a landscaping upgrade scheme will be designed and public consultation on the scheme will then take place. It is expected that works will commence on this scheme in mid 2016 and that the scheme when completed will cost in the region of €750,000.
The Chief Executive's report in budget 2015 gave a commitment in relation to the carrying out of further work to enhance the landscaping of the approaches of the County and in this regard each of the approach roads listed will be examined to determine what upgrade works and improved maintenance would be appropriate and achievable in each case. In the first instance it is proposed that the N81 scheme will be completed in 2016 as mentioned above. In addition the public realm improvement works programme for 2015 includes for the upgrading of numerous roundabouts on approach roads such as Belgard Road aimed at enhanced landscaping and visual amenity, the programme for 2016 is likely to include a further list of roundabouts on other approach roads around the County including the Tallaght area.
