QUESTION NO. 23

QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor

"To ask the Chief Executive to outline plans to boost Tourism in the Tallaght area and will he appreciate the view of many that there is huge potential in promoting Tallaght as a Heritage Site."

REPLY:

It is acknowledged that there is potential in the heritage tourism product in the Tallaght area.

In this regard the information panels introduced as part of the pilot Village signage programme in Tallaght include QR codes to online audio heritage walks for the Village and Town Centre, as well as images of key sites. Our Summer of Heritage programme also featured a number of walks and events based on Tallaghts Heritage.

The Council has formed an operational team of officials from various Council functions and is in the latter stages of scheduling a programme of works to upgrade the Village and make the Heritage more accessible and appealing. As part of this planned project, the Local Studies area of the Economic Enterprise & Tourism Development Dept has further researched the heritage of the Village area with a view to installing some further signage and panels to present the heritage of the area.

This initiative along with our continued liaison with applicants under the Shop Front Grant Scheme and the Community Initiative Grant Scheme, will serve to present the heritage of Tallaght whilst also enhancing the area for visitors and local people alike.
