QUESTION NO. 7
QUESTION: Councillor K. Mahon
"To ask the Chief Executive to report on the level of cost and regularity of repairs required at Carrigmore Park, Citywest over the last year? Can the Chief Executive also report on what steps are taken to avoid damage at the Park and whether fencing or gates have been known to act as an effective deterent?
Residents have complained of constant vandalism to their park and severe disruption to its use as a local ammenity for local children."
REPLY:
In general Carrigmore Park is a very successful park despite some initial problems following construction. There has been some level of anti-social behaviour particularly in relation to the playground. Approximately €6,500 has been spent on repairs to the playground in Carrigmore Park and these repairs were necessitated mainly due to vandalism.
The Council has had meetings with local groups and with the Citywest Shopping Centre, LUAS and CityWest Business Park in relation to the anti-social issue.
It is not considered appropriate or necessary to erect railings and gates around the park since the experience of the Council is that vandalism is not always preventable by using gates and railings.
