MOTION NO. 6

MOTION: Councillor B. Ferron

That this Committee supports a request by Scoil Aonghusa Senior School in Balrothery to have the field adjacent to the school converted to a Gaelic Pitch for use by the students of the school. The school have a very successful senior boys and a girls team and have played and won in Croke Park as part of Cumann Na MBunscol over the past few years. This request has come from a teacher in the school who is also the Gaelic Coach. The field is currently going to waste as it is not being used for any sports matches or competitions, because of this there has been an increase in anti-social behaviour in the area. This committee believes that if we put up Gaelic goals on the field it would not only be a benefit for the children in the school but also the community as a whole. The school currently use Thomas Davis' all weather pitch for our home matches as the field as it is, is unsuitable for Gaelic. This costs the school a lot of money and will not be feasible in the long run.

REPORT:

The pitch immediately adjacent to Scoil Aonghusa Senior School in Balrothery (Pitch no 118) has been let for the 2015/ 2016 Season to St Maelruans FC, and as such is not currently available.

While we do not have any record of a request for a pitch from Scoil Aonghusa Senior School, should the school have an alternative location/ pitch in mind, a meeting can be arranged to discuss and consider any such proposals.
