MEETING OF CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE

MOTION NO. 11

MOTION: Councillor B. Bonner

"That the Chief Executive present a report on the issue of goods being displayed and sold on the pavement outside Supersavers store in Main Street, the report to include the efforts of the Council to date and also an indication of how it is intended to address this issue in future.

This issue has been of huge concern to Clondalkin residents who feel that nothing has been done to stop regulations being flouted by the owners of this premises. There is now the same issue with the shop next door which is for sale. It is currently being used as a pop up shop, with furniture etc displayed on the pavement."

REPORT:

In response to requests for shop front displays and in an effort to regulate this practice, a schedule of conditions has been developed by the Council which include the following:

Only those goods sold in the shop premises and approved by the Council can be displayed outside the premises.

No monetary exchange or payment may take place at any shop front location.

This is a reasonable approach and the conditions have been developed following an examination of best practice in other jurisdictions. The conditions will be brought forward to the SPC for discussion and to formalise into a Bye-Law.

In the interim, an inspection will be carried out and appropriate action in line with the proposed conditions will be pursued.
