MOTION NO. 2
MOTION: Councillor P. Foley
" That the opening hours of Tymon Park be extended? The Templeogue entrance to Tymon Park (on Wellington Lane) currently opens at 10.15am. In the interest of public health and fitness, is it possible to allow the public access to park before office opening hours so people can avail of the amenity for sports, leisure walks, runs and physical activity.
The park, the second biggest in Ireland, is a great natural resource for the public who want to use it for physical exercise. Can we do anything to get it open earlier"
REPORT:
The entrance to Tymon Park on Wellington Lane is opened by the Council's park rangers each morning after coming on duty at 10am. It would not be possible to alter this arrangement without impacting significantly on the rangers' work rosters which would not be desirable. As an alternative to this the Council's Public Realm section will examine the possibility of having these gates automated. If this can be done it would be possible to set them to open on a time switch which could be varied depending on the time of year. The work necessary to automate these gates will be costed and will be considered for inclusion in the 2016 public realm improvement works programme.
