MOTION: Councillor J. Graham

"That this Committee offer our full support to Bawnogue Boxing Club in ensuring a permanent location for the club and that the Management present a report outlining potential locations for a permanent site for the club."

 

REPORT:

The Council has had an ongoing contact with this club since its inception and has provided support funding.  In more recent times the club has made representations to the council requesting it to provide premises. While the council has in the past provided grants to clubs and currently operates a substantial community support fund we do not provide complete funding solutions to individual clubs nor are we in a position to provide premises. The council has communicated this to the club and advised it of its funding options including council grant schemes, the national sports capital programme administered by the Department of Sport and the National Irish Amateur Boxing Federation.
