QUESTION NO.11

QUESTION: Councillor P. Gogarty

"To ask the Chief Executive for an update on when the proposed trial mini-roundabout and related measures at Hillcrest/Newcastle Road are likely to commence and to confirm the likely duration?"

REPLY:

Consulting Engineers, working on behalf of the Traffic Section have examined a number of options for the Adamstown Road (R120) from its junction with the N4 to the Supervalue Roundabout.    These options include a mini-roundabout at the Hill Crest Junction.  The traffic section is currently examining these options as there are pros and cons associated with each one.

In the meantime the time settings for the traffic signals at the Hillcrest Road and Newcastle Road have been altered - the time for right turners into Hillcrest from Newcastle Road has been reduced. This has resulted in a marked improvement in traffic flow on Newcastle Road. A final review of the options will be undertaken and is anticipated to bring a detailed report on all options, along with a recommendation on the preferred option, to the Area Committee in September.
