MOTION NO. 14

MOTION: Councillor E. Higgins

"To ask the Chief Executive for a detailed report on the village initiative works in Clondalkin, Rathcoole and Newcastle and that the report outlines estimated timeframes of delivery for approved works."

REPORT:

A number of projects under the Villages Initiative are already completed in Clondalkin, including painting of buildings (2014) and tree-planting of semi-mature trees (2013). These works were discussed and carried out in conjunction with Clondalkin Tidy Towns. A budget of €2.0m is proposed for the design and construction of the Round Tower Visitor Centre and Public Gardens. This is the largest single allocation proposed under the Villages Initiative Project. Tender documentation is being prepared for these works and tenders will be sought later this year.

The County Architects Report on the Part VIII for Village Improvement works to Rathcoole was presented and approved at the May County Council Meeting. A number of submissions were received and considered as part of the detailed design of the proposals. The tender documents for these works are being prepared with a view to seeking tenders in July.

Design of the work in Newcastle is progressing and another meeting is planned to discuss proposals with residents this month. The pedestrian footpath to Peamount United along Aylmer Road is due to be tendered and work will be on site in August.

The full programme on the roll-out and on-site construction of the Villages Initiative was brought before the June meeting of the Council.
