MOTION NO. 2

MOTION: Councillor S. Holland

"That the Chief Executive install fencing around the border of the pitches area at Whitechurch.  Quads and motorbikes are destroying this valuable community asset. An Garda have stated previously during the JPC that they are impossible to police, as giving chase endangers the driver of the quad or motorbike, plus all nearby traffic.  Children play in this area too - we need to cut off vehicular access to the pitches and green area."

REPORT:

This proposal will be examined to determine the most effective means of removing vehicles from the open space and pitch area at Whitechurch Estate.  The erection of fencing around the entire perimeter of this open space would involve substantial work which would be very costly.  This proposal has not been included in the Public Realm Improvement Works Programme for 2015 nor has it been included to date in the three year rolling Capital Works Programme.  The proposal will now be costed and considered for inclusion in the three year Capital Works Programme for the period 2016 to 2018.
