MOTION NO. 8
MOTION: Councillor D. O'Donovan
"That the Chief Executive reinstates the double yellow lines on Beechdale Road near the entrance to Lidl in Ballycullen. At the point where the new SLOW sign has been put in place, and where the double yellow lines have been removed, cars are parking there, forcing cars turning off the Old Court Road onto the far side of the road, right into the path of traffic exiting the Lidl store. Residents are very concerned that the situation is an accident waiting to happen."
REPORT:
Double yellow lines were provided at this location in 2014 to facilitate truck movements into Lidl. In error, the lining contractor provided more than the agreed length of lining and subsequently blacked out the additional length.
Inspections have revealed that there is no major congestion. The road is of sufficient width to accommodate parked vehicles on one side while allowing movement of opposing vehicles. It also has the added benefit of slowing traffic once it has entered Beechdale Road.
