MOTION NO.5

MOTION: Councillor E. O'Brien

That this Council, in the absence of current agreed protocols outside of normal planning practice, for the naming of areas of significance including but not restricted to, parks, buildings, plazas, streets and bridges agrees to invoke such a protocol incorporating a public consultation process for any such place or area of significance in the future.

REPORT:

If the motion is passed such a protocol can be drafted for public buildings, spaces and structures of significance.  It should also be noted that the Planning and Transportation SPC is currently examining a protocol for naming bridges/parks/plazas etc.  Is is anticipated that the SPC will be recommending such a  protocol to the full Council once it is complete.
