QUESTION NO. 19
QUESTION: Councillor D. Looney
"To ask the Chief Executive if he will consider, in order to promote civic pride and a sense of place and identity, a new signage system for suburbs and other areas outside of the Villages Initiative under the remit of this Committee, e.g. Firhouse, Knocklyon, Greenhills, Perrystown, etc, along the lines of the signposting erected in recent years in the City Council area, and to make a statement on the matter?"
REPLY:
Arising from the work of the SPC working group both in the previous and current Council, South Dublin County Council has embarked on the rollout of a new wayfinding system, based on 'heads up' mapping and attendent fingerposting. This programme is based on the identified need for improved wayfinding for pedestrians and cyclists in our towns and villages, to support business, tourism and our citizens. An agreed systematic approach is in place which in the first instance is a pilot programme for Tallaght. This is currently in place. Following an assessment of this, it is envisaged that the system will be rolled out to the nine historical villages as identified. Other areas will be considered following this programme of works.
