QUESTION NO 15.
QUESTION: Councillor D. Looney
To ask the Chief Executive for a full report on the Register of Electors in light of the recent referendums; how many people have been removed from the register in recent years; how many of these have been reinstated; is he satisfied with the level of registrations in comparison with other local authorities; and to make a statement on the matter?
REPLY:
There have been 16,778 Electors removed from the Draft Register of Electors in the last 2 years. No Electors are removed form the Live register. Electors are removed from the Draft Register for one of 3 reasons. 1. If they have passed away, 2 If they have changed address. 3. If we receive notification from An Post that they have “gone away”. If any of these Electors return to live in the Administrative area they are added back onto the Register. This information is collated annually during the summer months and the Register is then updated. The level of registration in South Dublin County Council is proportionate to the no of citizens over 18 years of age who are eligible to vote. The Council is committed to increasing the level of registration on an ongoing basis.
