QUESTION NO. 13

QUESTION: Councillor S. Holland

"To ask the Chief Executive that Members had previously asked that this council liaise with Dun Laoghaire -Rathdown regarding the Marlay Park concerts.  Specifically, we asked that DLR provide a financial kickback to the residents on this side of the county divide, as residents of DLR enjoy some benefits from the income the concerts provide, whereas residents on this side do not.

Please outline to this council what the outcome of this was?"

REPLY:

In discussions with representatives of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, it is clear that the development and upkeep of Marlay Park is facilitated by revenues generated by the annual concert series.  This park on the boundary with South Dublin County attracts large numbers of visitors from South Dublin on a regular basis.  This amenity, provided and funded by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council only is of great benefit to nearby residents of South Dublin, without any supporting contribution to the costs of the facility from South Dublin.
