QUESTION: Councillor D. O'Donovan

To ask the Chief Executive how many civil actions have been taken against SDCC in relation to playground incidents within the past five years and how much compensation has been paid out in relation to these matters?

REPLY:

The Council's playgrounds and playspaces experience high usage.  Given the numbers using the facilities there have been relatively few civil actions in respect of accidents and injuries at these facilities.

The following is an outline of the number of claims in respect of alleged incidents in playgrounds/ playspaces received during the past five (5) years

2010 = 0

2011 = 3

2012 = 3

2013 = 3

2014 = 1

The compensation figure paid in respect of these claims was €276,000.
