MOTION NO. 4

MOTION: Councillor B. Ferron

That this committee calls on the Chief Executive to arrange to have all dumped material removed from the lakes located in the environs of the Sean Walsh Park, particularly the removal of shopping trolleys which have been dumped into the lake located adjacent to the Council depot end of the park. 

REPORT:

A major clean up of the lake adjacent to the Council depot in Sean Walsh Park was carried out during the first week in May of this year. Some smaller items of litter such as bottles and cans still remain trapped in silt on the bed of the lake. It was not possible to remove all of these items at the time of clean up, it will be necessary to return to complete the job when the water level in the lake has dropped during the summer months. Other lakes and watercourses in the park are currently being examined and it is planned that a thorough clean up of all these will be carried out in the coming months.  It should be noted that a trash screen which was previously in place upstream of the first lake, and which was missing for some time, has now been repaired and reinstalled on the inflow. This will improve the situation with regard to litter being washed down from the upstream catchment area.
