MOTION: Councillor E. Ó Broin

Cathaoirleach's Business

"This Committee expresses its deep disappointment at the failure of the Council to submit a sports capital grant application for the Knockmitten United FC astro pitch and the subsequent loss of a potential €200,000 investment for the local community; agrees to formally write to the club pledging the Committees continued support to the clubs ongoing efforts to secure this facility for the local community; and requests that the Chief Executive presents a report to the Committee detailing the reasons behind the Councils failure to submit this important application."

REPORT:

The Council made every effort to lodge an application for this project to be funded under the Sports Capital Grant Scheme however it was not possible, despite the intentions of all parties, to meet the requirements set down by the Department to enable such an application to be lodged.

The County Architect has been instructed to prepare and finalise the necessary documentation to enable a Part 8 consultation for the proposed development to be undertaken. This consultation will be undertaken by the Public Realm Team as soon as it can be accommodated into the current work programem of that department.

Preliminary conversations have already been held with Club Officials and the holding of formal consultations with the Club will be facilitated as part of this process.

If the Motion is passed, a letter can be issued to the Club.
