MOTION NO.5
MOTION: Councillor E. Higgins
"That the Chief Executive presents a report on parking options at Rathcoole Park with a view to assessing the feasability of using the area opposite the Parks Depot, within the park, but currently unused as an amenity."
REPORT:
There is a particular problem with car parking for users of Rathcoole Park and which can only ultimately be resolved if/when plans for the wider area to the south of the park have been agreed.
The proposal suggested would rely on the use of the access road to the Parks Works Depot. This is a relatively narrow road with poor visibility and would not be considered to be suitable for public use. It is effectively a cul de sac at present but if used for public access it would be an open road and there would be concerns of safety conflicts during use as well as with the adjoining depot traffic during working hours.
An alternative would be to have parking parallel with Fitzmaurice Road – there are cost implications with this and also safety considerations.
The Council will examine the few short term available options in conjunction with the Roads Traffic Section and a further report will be presented to the Elected Members.
A map presentation of the area is shown as part of this report.
