COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE
Wednesday, May 20, 2015
MOTION NO. 19
MOTION: Councillor B. Bonner
"This committee calls for the immediate implementation of the 30 kmph speed limit in all the town centre areas in the Clondalkin electoral area, in all housing estates and in the vicinity of all primary and second level schools in the area."
REPORT:
It is not possible to implement such a broad request without revising the current speed limit bye law in relation to speed limits. The Current bye law is being reviewed and it is intended to brief members as soon as the review is complete prior to commencing a public consultation process. All roads in the County must be examined in this review. The review will be undertaken during the summer months and members will be advised of the outcome before the commencment of public consultation.
The earliest time that a new speed limit byelaw can be in force is early 2016 given the necessary timescales for NRA and Garda approval before publication and the necessary time required for public consultation procedures. Final approval of the speed limit byelaw is a reserved function of the members.
