QUESTION NO. 20
QUESTION: Councillor D. O'Donovan
To ask the Chief Executive why SDCC paints infill housing in pastel colours?
REPLY:
Traditionally, social housing is painted or plaster-dashed in white, cream or light-grey contrasting with brick gables, ground-floor walls or brick string-courses or lintols. South Dublin County Council tends to adhere as a rule to this approach and does not normally use pastel colours. Strong colours are occasionally used on feature houses, plastered reveals or bay-windows to add visual effect. Dark or strong colours tend to fade quickly and are hard to match in colour for repairs or extensions. Pastel colours tend to be more prevalent when residents paint their own homes themselves and have control over colour choice.
