QUESTION NO. 6
QUESTION: Councillor R. McMahon
To ask the Chief Executive how many Sports facilities in the County are like the All Weather Pitches on Fortunestown Way, which are complete and unopened and are not being made available to the Public. Also what are the delays in opening these facilities and when can we expect them to be opened?
REPLY:
The opening of the all weather pitches referred to on Fortunestown Way has been delayed due to problems with the electrical installation.
In order to operate the pitches effectively the access control system, lighting, CCTV and speaker systems all need to be operating to an agreed specification and an acceptable standard. Faults were identified by the Council in relation to the safety and performance of these items, and the electrical contractor was removed from the site by the main contractor.
A full review of the installation was carried out and the council and the contractor have agreed the scope of the works required to bring the installation up to specification.
Method statements for dealing with the electrical problems are due to be submitted by 8th May, and if approved the contractor has committed to completing all works by 29th May at which point the site can be handed back to the Council.
It is envisaged that the pitches will be open in June.
There are no other facilities complete and unopened.
