QUESTION NO.19

QUESTION: Councillor D. O'Donovan

To ask the Chief Executive to explain when individual residents became responsible for their own access joints and other water pipes outside their home?

REPLY:

Irish Water is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the public water mains network.

Under the Water Services Acts, homeowners are responsible for the maintenance and repair of all pipework in their home and on their property and this responsibility has not changed. This means that where a leak occurs in the home or within the property boundary, homeowners are responsible for arranging a repair.

However, Irish Water has introduced an interim First Fix Scheme to support customers in reducing the water wasted through leaks on their property by repairing leaks on the external supply pipe. For more information visit www.water.ie
