"To ask the Chief Executive for an update on proposals for housing construction at Fernwood and Maplewood- Springfield."
REPLY:
The “Social Housing Strategy 2020 – Support, Supply and Reform” envisages both new-build housing and a flexible range of supports to the private rental sector and the social housing sector. Nationally the Programme aspires to the construction of 35,000 new houses to address social housing need.
A detailed study of infill sites owned by South Dublin County Council was carried out in late 2014. These sites were reviewed under criteria of
Sketch designs were prepared to estimate yield and a series of informal briefings held with each Area Committee. One of the sites identified was for 22 housing units on a site in Fernwood, Tallaght, Dublin 24.
Following recent notification from the Department of Environment Community and Local Government of funding for a Capital Assistance Scheme (CAS) Programme 2015 - 2017, South Dublin County Council invited Approved Housing Bodies to put forward cost effective and sustainable proposals for the site at Fernwood. The closing date for submission was Friday the 17th of April 2015.
The following are the four priority needs suitable for CAS funding as identified in the latest South Dublin County Council Housing Needs Assessment:
The Council has received a number of submissions under the Call for CAS 2015 - all submissions will be evaluated. Where a proposal from an Approved Housing Body successfully meets the criteria laid down by the Council the proposed scheme will then be forwarded to the DECLG and Council Members for approval.
