QUESTION NO. 15

QUESTION: Councillor E. Higgins

That the CEO present a report on proposals to further increase footfall and amenities in Corkagh and Rathcoole Parks and that the report look at the feasibility of including wild flower meadows in these parks

REPLY:

The Council has carried out a range of developments including the provision of wild flower meadows in both Corkagh Park and Rathcoole Park in recent years, all of which have increased visitor numbers. The most recent development has been the opening of the playspace in Rathcoole Park earlier this year which is proving to be a very popular local amenity.

However, increased visitor numbers bring increased presssure on infrastructure. As a result, provision has been made in the 2015 - 2017 Capital Programme for the completion of the entrance road and car park in Corkagh Park, accessed off the R136 Outer Ring Road. In addition, provision has been made to commence work on separating pedestrian traffic from vehicular traffic along the main avenue through the park. These works, when completed will enhance the vistor experience and improve comfort for all park users.
