QUESTION NO. 7
QUESTION: Councillor E. Ó Broin
To ask the Chief Executive for a report on; the progress to date in the completion of works in Ballynakelly/Newcastle Lyons estate; the progress to date in the taking in charge of that estate; whether the Council has any concerns about the quality of the work undertaken or the delay in completion of the work; and an estimated time-frame for the opening and closing of the formal taking in charge process?
REPLY:
Works are almost complete in Ballynakelly/ Newcastle Lyons. Outstanding items include:
1) Installation and commissioning of water main telemetry equipment.
2) Commissioning of traffic signals at Aylmer Road and the pedestrian signals at the roundabout - Awaiting ESB supplies.
3) Drainage CCTV was recently submitted and is currently under review by SDCC.
4) Various minor snag works.
All works must be completed and signed off by SDCC in advance of Taking In Charge.
A significant amount of additional underground work was discovered once the Contractor was on site, which accounts for much of the delay in completion.
There have been some issues with quality control during the works, and various items have been revisited at our request.
SDCC must try to ensure that Taking In Charge standards are met, regardless of any perceived delays.
While the majority of the infrastructure is completed, there is a lead in time for delivery of some telemetry equipment, and the connection of power supplies is down to a third party. Estimated timeframe to completion of outstanding items is 12 weeks.
