QUESTION NO.42

QUESTION: Councillor F. Timmons

Following the announcement of the Village Initiative scheme and plans for Tallaght Rathfarham and Rathcoole on line when can we hope to see plans for other areas? and can a breakdown of how much will be spent in each area? Will North Clondalkin Benefit from this Initiative ?

REPLY:

Nine villages in all are involved in the Local Villages Initiative Programme – Clondalkin, Lucan, Newcastle, Palmerstown, Rathcoole, Rathfarnham, Saggart, Tallaght and Templeogue.

Part 8 Approval was agreed in 2014 for the Clondalkin Round Tower Visitor Centre and Public Garden. A design team has been appointed and are at work on the production of a tender for this project. Work on the building is scheduled to commence in Autumn 2015 with a view to completion before the end of 2016.

The works agreed in Palmerstown were below the threshold for a Part 8 process and are already on site. They are scheduled for completion by early to mid-May. It is likely that the works in Newcastle will be divided into two projects both below the Part 8 threshold also.   Discussion and consultation on these works will continue with local groups through April and subject to agreement will then proceed to tender.

Part 8 Displays are already underway or completed for Lucan, Rathcoole, Rathfarnham and Saggart. Discussions are still required with local owners and the community in Templeogue before Part 8 can commence in view of the pattern of land ownerships.

A full programme on the roll-out and on-site construction of the Villages Initiative will be brought before the May 21st meeting of the Council. The exact allocation of budgets will depend on the approval and development of designs but indicative distribution of funding will be included with the May programme.
