QUESTION NO.22
QUESTION: Councillor E. Ó Broin
To ask the Chief Executive to upgrade the Fix My Street facility to enable users to map the location of their issue with Google Coordinates and attach photographs in the same way. This would be particularly usefully for users in the rural parts of the County?
REPLY:
The Council are currently working on an upgrade to the fixyourstreet site which will provide improved options when it comes to mapping.
At present due to the viewer deployed on the existing website, we are limited to using openstreetmap which though is really good and is often better than google maps as it derives it’s map base from crowd sourced activity (ie. you can update your own locality through their website if it is incorrect), there are parts of the county where google maps may be superior.
The updated site will have a mapping control which will provide for either openstreetmap, google maps, or google satellite imagery.
Photographs can at present be uploaded as can links to other reference materials via the fixyourstreet site itself.
fixyourstreet also provides an android app which uses google maps, provides for image upload, and pinpoints the location via the device’s gps unit such that even if the map isn't available at the specified location, a user can still report the issue and the Council will receive the correct location.
This upgrade is due to be completed before end of April 2015.
