MOTION: Councillor W. Lavelle, Councillor C. Brophy, Councillor V. Casserly, Councillor A-M. Dermody , Councillor P. Donovan, Councillor E. Higgins, Councillor K. Egan

That this Council welcomes the publication by Minister for Transport Paschal Donohoe TD of the new ‘Guidelines for Setting and Managing Speed Limits’; and calls on he Chief Executive to ensure the speedy introduction in this County of both the new urban ‘Slow Zones’ for residential areas and the new speed signage for minor local roads in rural areas.

REPORT:

Following the issuing of the above mentioned guidelines, the Roads Section has commenced a process of reviewing all Speed limits within the County.  This will involve a considerable volume of work and it is anticipated that a draft set of byelaws will be brought forward for public consultation in the Autumn.
