QUESTION NO. 41
QUESTION: Councillor F. Timmons
To ask for a Report to how many families/individuals are being put up in Hotels ? Also as part of this report to ask the time period of the people living within them? How many hotels are involved? also where would I ask how much the cost of this type of accommodation ?
REPLY:
South Dublin County Council's Homeless Services Unit currently has 45 families placed into hotel accommodation across the Dublin region. Every family placed into private emergency accommodation (including hotels) are referred to the Focus Ireland New Presenters Team for initial assessment and care planning to identify all housing options available and support families out of homeless services.
It is not possible to advise regarding the length of time a family may be placed into hotel accommodation. Hotel placements are a last resort and not sustainable for long periods of time. When a more suitable placement becomes available within emergency accommodation, every effort is made to transfer families from hotels and priority afforded to them for allocation as directed by the Minister for the Environment Community and Local Government.
Expenditure in relation to all emergency accommodation is managed by Dublin City Council as the lead authority and South Dublin County Council pays a contribution in respect of all expenditure on homeless services.
It is also not possible to give details on the number of hotels used as for emergency accommodation as it varies and changes from day to day.
