MOTION NO. 1

MOTION: Councillor E. Ó Broin

Cathaoirleach's Business;

That this Committee agrees that the Manager present a report on the dumping and anti-social behaviour in the laneway behind *Address supplied (including photographs) and outlining options for the long term resolution of the problems associated with this laneway.

REPORT:

Laneways are only  closed at the request and agreement of all residents adjacent to the specific laneway.

The affected residents are notified and agree that in the event of the laneway being closed that they the residents become responsible for the upkeep of the laneway.  Once a laneway is closed keys to the laneway are given to the residents affected, the Council do not have access to the laneway once it has been closed off.

Staff from Estate Management called to the area and tried to gain access but were refused by residents.

Attached is photo taken by member of staff of the laneway in question, which appears to be overgrown with some litter. A letter will issue to the relevant tenants informing them of their responsibility in maintaining the laneway.  There are no reports of anti social behaviour in the vicinity of the laneway in question.
