MOTION NO.2

MOTION: Councillor E. Ó Broin

That this Committee agrees that the Chief Executive present a report on the ongoing problems with the internal communal areas, doors & letter boxes in Balgaddy *Address supplied and outlining solutions to these problems.

REPORT:

There are 22 communal doors serving the housing units at this location.  Vandalism of these doors has been an ongoing problem.  To address this issue the Council recently replaced the communal door at 132/134 Foxdene Avenue with a new type of door to establish if it would prevent vadalism.  Currently one of the tenants has expressed her satisfaction with the new door since its installation.  It is now proposed to replace a number of other doors.  If they are successful in preventing access to vandals then the remainder of these doors will be replaced subject to available funding.

It is also planned to replace the letter box in one communal area on a pilot basis and if this is found to be successful it may be rolled out to the remainder of the units where required.
